about

6. Guarapachanguero is the long name of a long stretched-out rhythm which I first learned from a very tall man called Manolo (Rafael Cisneros) - a great maestro of Afrocuban music with whom I studied percussion for a while and co-led Proyecto Evocación, recording the album “Roots en Route - Raices en Viaje” (2010 Spherical Records). This tune is a relatively slow take on the rhythm and is the one piece on the album that stays in clave throughout. Manolo lives in that long street in the photo.
